Family road trip to Coeur D'Alene and Seattle! This is kind of a first for our family. We are used to driving to the airport and flying to our destination. So a 7 hour drive to Coeur D'Alene was a little different for all of us. This first picture was taken after we had stopped for lunch- just after we ran out of gas on the side of the road! Long story short- Dave noticed we were running low just about the time we entered a stretch of road that had no gas stations for a very long time! We ran out of gas about 5 miles from the closest gas station. Luckily, we were only on the side of the road for about 10 minutes before a family stopped and happened to have 1.5 gallons of gas to spare. We paid them 20.00 (!!) for the gas and made it to the gas station a few minutes later!
The first stop, and main reason we chose Coeur D'Alene for our destination, was the Route of the Hiawatha. It is a 15-mile mountain bike trail that passes through 10 train tunnels
and 7 sky-high trestles. So, SO awesome!!
The trail begins with a ride through the 1.66 mile long St. Paul Pass Tunnel, or Taft Tunnel. I was worried about the girls getting anxious in a completely dark tunnel, but they both did great!!
The entire tunnel has these trenches along both sides, so you really have to concentrate on staying in the center of the tunnel. Easy in broad daylight. A little nerve-wracking in the dark with only a headlight to guide you!
We made it! I was super proud of the girls for making it the entire 15 miles with very little complaining :)

Timberline Adventures Ziplining!
One of those rare moments when Liv is worn out enough to actually sit still :)
Hopefully it's because she had SO much fun in Coeur D'Alene!!
