Austin's Accident

I have such a hard time even talking about this because it was such a dark, scary and difficult time for our family. Austin was in a snowmobile accident on March 17, 2017 and was not wearing a helmet at the time. This resulted in a traumatic brain injury. He was taken to EIRMC, underwent surgery to drain some blood beneath the skull, and was left sedated and intubated for 2 weeks. That was the longest 2 weeks of my life- easily! So many unknowns- will he make it? If he makes it will ever be back to normal? Would he want to live this way? Etc., etc. So scary!

After the two weeks of many ups and downs, his doctor decided to wake him up and see what he was able to do on his own. He was definitely confused, uninhibited, and pretty darn mad that he couldn't go home right then and there! He spent the next couple of weeks in the ICU and on the rehab floor, regaining his strength, relearning motor skills, and retraining himself to be able to eat solid food.

I can't even express how grateful I am that he recovered (COMPLETELY!!) and that he is still here with us! Our family experienced a miracle with him! I did make a book of the accident and recovery in more detail, but it is WAY too long to include here.
